There is an old hymn by Albert E Brumley that tells us that we are only passing through this world, it is not our home. We have treasures beyond measure in Heaven with Jesus.

Though we may be walking through this world in a house of flesh and bone, this is not our eternal abode. We can look with hope and joy beyond this life to the one that is waiting for us. Jesus told us that He was going to prepare a place for us to be with Him in His home.

Those who had glimpses of this Heavenly home could only relate its beauty and splendor in “like as” comparisons because we have no language that could describe the wonders there. This is our hope. The knowledge that we have a home prepared for us beyond this life causes us to walk through all the toils and trials that we face here with contentment, joy and abundant peace.

Yes this world seems to ever be getting harsher and darker and colder, but it is not our portion. It is not our reward. We do not have to strive on in emptiness, longing to fill our soul. We can accept the invitation of Jesus to come to Him and find rest for our souls, peace for our minds and contentment.

We can sing and rejoice through our days here. In this life we know we are not alone. Jesus is always with us. In this life we can have joy. We can say with Paul in Philippians 4:11, in whatever state I am in in this natural world, I can find contentment in Christ Jesus my Lord. If I have much or if I have little, I can be content in Christ Jesus my Lord. If I have those who are with me or if all seem to be against me, I can be content in Christ Jesus my Lord. I have peace beyond understanding. I am filled with the love of God to me. I am sheltered in the mighty arms of my God.
